The merry race

 

 

On its flow, from the medieval town of Maglič to Kraljevo, on a 25 kilometer long road, the calm  river Ibar seems to get furious. Waterfalls and rapids, sometimes replaced by plain flows, have always been a true challenge for sailing lovers, on wild waters. Until 1990, when the first tourist and sport event was organized,called »The Marry race«, it is traditionally organized every last Sundey of June,On the first event there were hardly 150 people with 20 diferent vessels , and today we have more then 10 thousand domestic and foreign participians.

            Campers arrive at the bottom of Maglič a few days earlier so that they can enjoy this unique nature and history environment giving parties under the sky full of stars. At the same time,in Kraljevo,concerts and diferent sport and recreation events are being held, but every one is just impatient waiting for Sunday,when the race begins.This is the time when Ibar is full of decorated boats and vessels of all kinds with marry crews. On the coast,mobs of people are gathering with marry greeting to those on the water. Of course , the inevitable trumpet players are here,as well!

            The race ends in Mataruška Spa, only for short time,where bean is traditionally prepared for the participiants of the merry regatta.Many boats and rafts stay anchored here,and only the most  persistent ones end their one-day journey in Kraljevo,where the party is continued very late at night and stories are being told until the next race.

 

 

 

 

 

 

TARA

Wild Beuty

 

 

 

 

 

 

One of the most beutiful mountains in Serbia. It is located in vestern Serbia, covered with thick forests, colored with glades and meadows, with rocky cliffs , from which  one can see magnificent , meandering as a snake, river Drina. Back in 1981, this area of about 19750 hectares was proclaimed a national park in oder to protect and reserve rare plan and animal species. The special item of this wild beauty is Pančić s spruce an edemic-relic species that has survived only here from the ice age. This spindle-shaped.Slim tree grows (up to 50 meters ) only on whey rocky and poor terrains and even it was dscovered in 1875 its still has the interest of world sience .

            The climed is convenient for creating many diseases and enables an active rest, from skiing on arranged tracks, walks to wolf , chamois and roebuck hunting, fishing huchen on the river Drina. The Perućas lake is in real blessing for all those who would like to spend their holidays without many clothes. 

 

 

 

 

 

DRINA

The green-eyed border guard

 

 

Drina, so powerful and green, is on of our most beautiful rivers. In the ancient times it was called Drinos, but the people called it-for the color of its water Zelenika or Zelenka (»Zelen« is the =Srebian word for green).For centuries, it was the border,limes between the West  and East Roman Empire and it was separating the Chatolik and Orthodox area  through history and today it is dividing the some people. It appears by this appearing of two rivers, Tara and Piva, and it is 346 kilometers long, up to Sava, passing trough canyons and gorges. The difference in height between the spring and the mouth is 358 kilometers and the river is sometimes fast, tamed by artificial lakes and dams for hydroelectric power stations.

            However it is still hot-tempered even if it can settle down for some time,passing through many walleys. It s rapids are a true challeneg for rafting funs which has whery long tradition, lasting 80 years, so the tourist and recreation event was born , »the regatta on Drina« ( 25 kilometers long) which is taking place every July from Perućac to rogačica.

There is the »race of Drina « in all kinds vesseles, every day, from Perućac to Bajna Bašta, Rogaica or Ljubovija lasting for several hours or all day long.
